This is a GREAT science book for elementary age kids. One mention of a prehistoric animal is all that points to a specific worldview. The book has a great combination of facts and narrative story telling. Included in the story is a illustration and facts about food chains that include snakes. Book covers birth, mating (child appropriately done), habitats, death, food and predators of and varieties of snakes. This is my third full Robert McClung book to read. I highly recommend him as a good living author for kids.

I am terribly afraid of snakes but perhaps reading such books could help me with overcoming this fear. This picture book is highly informative and I got to know many interesting things about snakes even though looking at real photographs of these animals was not a pleasure for me :) I like the table of content which is logical and helps the reader to find particular information about snakes. Generally, I recommend this picture book to people who would like to get to know something more about snakes and alter their approach towards these scary creatures.
