A useful overview of Chrétien de Troye’s romances and their treatment of love and marriage. I found the connections made between Chrétien and his contemporaries and patrons particular interesting, as well as the discussions of how the romances fit into the contemporary views of marriage as a whole. A useful reference text, although perhaps not as thorough as I would’ve liked.
Nothing especially deep and insightful here, I think, but a good overview of Chrétien's opinions, and some analysis of how he conveys them through the stories. Some context, too.
