Season of Dreams: The Minnesota Twins' Drive to the 1991 World Championship

Rate this book
Minnesota Twins' Magic.... Season of Dreams chronicles the Minnesota Twins' Drive to win the 1991 World Championship... what a team, what a story! The team stumbled to end the 1990 season and had seemingly lost the edge to win. But, manager Tom Kelly had other plans and brought a hungry bunch of unlikely heroes to take a second World Championship in five years. This was no small feat. He placed untried players in key positions, his ace pitcher was considered to be over the hill, and he had lost team leader Gary Gaetti to the Angels. Here is an insider's account of the strategy behind the Twins' remarkable success, complete with photos and stats, from the close of the 1990 season to the spellbinding World Series victory!

Culminating with one of the greatest World Series ever played, the story of the thrilling season of the Minnesota Twins is greatly detailed through the eyes of manager, Tom Kelly. Though I was not even born during the time this historic season was played, its legend and its characters have been ingrained in Minnesota lore, and thus in my conscience, since Day 1. For the first time, it was enjoyable to finally learn the full story of the worst-to-first '91 Twins, from the offseason and spring training to the incredible 15 game winning streak and the short but brilliant run of pitcher Scott Erickson. Kelly's insight - likely shared solely for the benefit of this book, which was published soon after the season ended - helps the story a great deal. However, I would have appreciated more quotations and views from other key persons involved. At times, this read more like a game by game recap without enough analysis and added information to put a new spin on this legendary Series. Lastly, I recommend watching videos of the featured moments found in this book as you read of them. Enjoy re-living truly a dream season!
