The Mistletoe Phenomenon Magnus Carstens, an eminent glaciologist, recently had to change his life: he's become his nephew Jakob's guardian, has taken a new job as a park ranger, and moved them to Mistletoe, Wyoming. There he meets Lance Rivera, who is working in his sister's store to make a living after his lover took off with all their money. When Lance and Magnum come together, literally under the mistletoe, both realize all they really want is a family to love.
The Solstice Mistletoe Effect Lance and Magnus have a new life as a family with Jakob, but when they visit Magnus's parents in Sweden, they are not happy. Magnus seems oblivious to the woman they think more suitable, but when an attractive job offer is added to the mix, Lance faces a crisis: What if Magnus chooses the new job and a life with Sigrid over the family he's started with Lance and Jakob?
The Mistletoe Experiment Lance is on cloud nine. Magnus proposed and they're moving their family to Sweden for Magnus's new job. But when an unexpected threat to their relationship surfaces, their new life turns out to be very different from what they had hoped. Will Lance and Magnus's love be strong enough to make their Mistletoe Experiment a success?
I’m a night owl and start writing when everyone else in my time zone is asleep. I’ve loved reading all my life and spent most of my childhood with my nose buried in a book. Although I always wanted to be a writer, financial independence came first. Twenty-some years and a successful business career later I took some online writing classes and never looked back.
Living and working in eight countries has taught me that there is more than one way to get things done. It has instilled tremendous respect for the many different cultures, beliefs, attitudes, and preferences that exist on our planet.
I like exploring those differences in my stories, most of which happen to be romances. My characters have a tendency to want to do their own thing, so I often have to rein them back in. The one thing we all agree on is the desire for a happy ending.
I currently live in Canada, sharing my house with a vast collection of books. I like reading, traveling, spending time with my nieces and listening to classical music. I have a passion for science and learning new languages.
The Mistletoe Phenomenon (Mistletoe Science 1) A new twist on a Christmas season story. My first Serena Yates story and definitely not my last! Serena weaves a wonderful tale of two very different men destined to complete each other. She had me cheering for them from the very beginning, especially for Lance. I was practically shouting "Come on Magnus! What are you waiting for? Step under that mistletoe and kiss that sweet man!"
If you are looking for hard-core, look somewhere else, but if you want to enjoy a sweet, touching, uplifting story that will renew your faith in love, ‘The Mistletoe Phenomenon’ is a good choice. Serena's descriptions are vivid and her characters clearly defined. I felt cold when they were cold and hot when they were... er... hot. READ IT! You will not be disappointed.
The Solstice Mistletoe Effect (Mistletoe Science 2) 'The Solstice Mistletoe Effect' by Serena Yates is a delightful journey through Swedish culture adding color and ambiance to the story. However, using the Solstice as a backdrop portrayed much more. The summer solstice is a time for new beginnings and a new beginning is exactly what Magnus and Lance needed.
Their relationship is severely tested when the rest of the world tries to tear them apart. To make matters worse, Magnus can't see what's happening. Like many intelligent people, he is used to perceiving things only as they relate to himself and is unable to see how the situation is affecting Lance. Lance, on the other hand, sees it all. As smart as Magnus is, he is dense when it comes to understanding people's intentions. His lack of perception threatens to destroy his relationship with Lance.
As with Christmas, mistletoe is an important part of the summer solstice and continues to be important in the celebration of Lance and Magnus's relationship. The humble sprig of mistletoe which brought Magnus and Lance together in the first place, continues to help guide their destiny. Magnus and Lance are able to experience the magic of the solstice and realize that changes have to be made in order to secure their partnership. With the mistletoe's help, they make a new start toward a brighter future.
'The Solstice Mistletoe Effect' is the sequel to 'The Mistletoe Phenomenon'. It was enjoyable visiting with the guys again. To better understand and enjoy this novella, I'd recommend reading the first, but whether you do or not, the second is a delight all on its own.
The Mistletoe Experiment (Mistletoe Science 3) It was delightful to visit with Magnus, Lance, and Jakob again in Serena Yates's 'The Mistletoe Experiment'. I fell in love with the guys in the first 'Mistletoe Science' book and continued my love affair with Magnus and Lance throughout the second book and into the third. Serena did an admirable job of bringing new readers up to date, while reminding the rest of us of what had previously occurred. I was thrilled to see how marvelously the characters had grown; developing into happy, healthy individuals whose bond of love and level of commitment had grown even stronger.
It's heartening to see that Magnus is more expressive and supportive of Lance, resulting in an even more harmonious relationship. Lance is now deliciously assertive, displaying monumental self-confidence. Jakob has always been wise beyond his years, but his understanding of how wrong his kidnapping was and his desire to help bring his aunt and uncle to justice was amazingly perceptive.
Magnus and Lance's wedding was a glorious event, although I found it amusing that no one batted an eye about two men getting married, but were questioning the appropriateness of a chocolate wedding cake. Since the mistletoe's magic originally brought Magnus and Lance together, its representation at their wedding served as a sign of its continuing support of their union.
Read by itself, 'The Mistletoe Experiment' is a good story, but to feel its full emotional impact, I'd suggest reading 'The Mistletoe Phenomenon' and 'The Mistletoe Solstice Effect' as well. My only complaint is that there aren't more books in the series because I could follow the lives of these gorgeous guys forever.
