By 2029, the effects of global warming coupled with the depletion of oil drastically reduced the world's population. Then an unforgiving winter storm arrived in the Pacific Northwest. Through that period of unrelenting winds and sub-zero temperatures, the few survivors formed together in 'families' for protection. Their plight is made even more difficult by a military patrol assigned to guard the last remaining gasoline reserves on the west coast. I read this book because I live near where it takes place. The story is about the people left alive in a small town in the Pacific Northwest after a devastating storm kills off most of the population. It shows the hardships and dangers of surviving the end of the world. It is a bit slow in the beginning, but picks up part of the way through the book. I enjoyed it.
