My favorite of books I've read by this great film critic (tho there isn't one I wouldn't recommend). Especially struck by insights into DH Lawrence's Women In Love (and, by extension, Ken Russell's film version), as well as the material on Sam Fuller. He's remarkably good at sidestepping the standard (now rather dull) trends/controversies of the time, probing in directions that ultimately reflect back on & recontextualize those trends (he does something similar w/his "plot descriptions.")
