I gave the book four stars based on the extensive and very interesting pictures (some fold out) of the sculptures that J. Seward Johnson, Jr. has created based on several famous Impressionist paintings by Manet, Monet, van Gogh, Renoir and one by Caillebotte.

I am not an artist and so my rating has no relation to Johnson's artistic talents. I skimmed some of the text that included critical reviews of his creation of taking famous two-dimensional imagery to three-dimensional sculpture. Some would recognize his work as a form of art while others consider it rubbish or "kitsch". So I found the book interesting because Johnson's work was so different from art that I've been familiar with in the past, rather than any judgment on his art as true art.
