Sometimes Johnson nails it. Sometimes he misses it. So an uneven presentation on what Jesus said and meant in each Beatitude. Johnson tries hard to be contemporary and colorful and cool. Many times it works, but sometimes it feels pressed.

This might be one of the most powerful books I've ever read on the Beatitutes. It changed the way that I think about Jesus and his teaching, and most importantly, it changed the way that I thought about myself. I cannot say enough good things about it. Read it!
