High Street is the most famous Roman road in Cumbria. Rising to almost 2,700 feet, it is a spectacular high-level route across fells between the Roman forts of Galava (Ambleside) and Brocavum (Brougham). It covers 25 miles, reaches an altitude of 2,700 feet and almost half of it is above 2,000 feet. This book breaks it down into six manageable circular one-day walks that together cover the whole journey. The book also details six linear walks that enable the main part of the route to be completed in two or three days.
