The importance of having a balanced diet is discussed in this series on the different food groups. Each book uses simple comparisons to explain that some foods are healthier than others, and gives readers ideas for creating their own meals.
I have worked in children’s publishing for 25 years in magazines and books as a writer and editor, and am now freelance. I love creating content to inspire children’s imaginations and pique their curiosity about the world through fun puzzles, games, activities, puzzle adventure stories, fiction and non-fiction. You may see me stepping out in my stripey socks, enjoying walks in nature with my Sheltie dog, Arthur.
great book to teach younger and older kids the importance of having a balanced diet. It explains the different groups in the food pyrmaid and why each group is important (or not important) for you!
Summary: Throughout this book we learn about a healthy lifestyle. Appropriate foods during a day are discussed, such as proteins and grains. We also learn what exactly those categories mean. We also are told about how exercise and lots of sleep is good for us!
Audience: This book was intended for anyone.
Appeal: I think this book appeals to anyone because many people are trying to be health and just do not know how. In this book we get a step-by-step guide of what is currently considered healthy and not healthy.
Implementation: I would use this book to discuss health. We would talk about the obesity problem and the difference between bad habits and good habits. One activity we could do would be to cut out all sorts of things then sort them as a class as a bad health habit or a good health habit and discuss why an item was one or the other. I really feel like health is an important concept for children to understand young and get into healthy habits sooner rather than later.
