M. R. Mathias is a member of the Authors Guild who cares for his wife, a Breast Cancer Warrior who has Parkinson's. After raising two boys into fine young men, they and two dogs split their time between a modest smalltown home, and an apartment built on a floating dock on Lake Ultura (aka Lake Texoma) which foots into an amazing State Park brimming with all sorts of wildlife. Like the wizards of old, he tends to the animals who share the area and inspire the creatures in his works. He likes to fish, write, play guitar, and he builds all sorts of things out of reclaimed wood. He sold over two million eBooks most of them before eBooks were cool. His work is critically acclaimed, and has earned multiple literary awards, including a coveted Locus Poll nomination.

Mathias offers helpful advice and suggestions in a readable format. While written some years back still very relevant and worth the time for Indie authors.
The First Ten Steps, By M R Mathias, is an easy to read, humorously delivered compendium of advise from one who has been through all the trials and travails of an Indy writer and emerged as an Amazon Best Selling Ebook author. He is savvy about the tools the new-to-Epublication writer needs to earn at least a modicum of success in this highly competitive industry. Most importantly, Mr. Mathias willingly shares it all, giving step-by-step instructions on getting the writer's book before the buying public in sucha a way that they will want to buy it.
I like Mr. Mathias' grit and drive. I think his book should be on every writer's bookshelf.

M.R. Mathias gives us the benefit of his experience of trial and error to become a massively successful independent writer. In the week and a half that I've owned this book, I've seen a considerable increase in traffic to my online presence and learned of ways to promote myself online that I would have never dreamed of.
The book is short. That's part of the point. Unlike some other books of this type, Mathias does not waste space pontificating about his own work; he outlines the steps he took in clear, concise language without stroking his own ego.
A must own for anyone interested in a long-term career in ePublishing.
Ace author Michael Robb Mathias reaches out to new authors in this short, concise, how-to book about promotion tactics for new authors. It’s a fast simple read that makes sense, without the “how to get published and become a millionaire” instructions I’ve seen in many other books. He does not under-emphasize how much time and dedication promotion takes, and also acknowledges the importance of having a good story to start with. For simple promotional tips and realistic expectations, I highly recommend this book to new authors. Congratulations, five stars!
The First Ten Steps is a must read for anyone with an ebook published. All though M.. Mathia wrote this book with the self published author in mind, I think that any author will benefit from reading this book. I have several short stories self published, but I also have two books published by small presses. Right away I saw things in this book that would help me in my marketing plan and I am starting to implement them. I highly recommend this book. M.R. Mathias is a Goodreads author. A simple, straight-forward approach to building your author 'brand' online. It is a well crafted and concise summary of the step-by-step routine M.R. Matthias used to become a successfully self-published author of over 50,000 ebooks. It doesn't take long to read and the process he outlines is thoroughly explained with numerous examples. If you're a self-published author looking to boost your online presence, then this is probably one of the tools you should start off with.
Like others have said, this book gets right to the point without any meaningless chatter getting in the way (I'm looking at you, Mr. Locke). The information is brief and to the point. Nothing earth shattering, but you'll be nodding your head while you read each step. Certainly worth the money... I've already made it back!
The author wrote this guide in a conversational manner; it seemed as though we were sitting at a kitchen table and he was telling me how to get my name "out there."
This book was filled with fantastic tips which are easily employed by the average internet user. I'm following these suggestions, almost to the letter, and it's making a positive difference already.
This book is an invaluable guide on how to use Twitter and other sites to promote your books. Mathias doesn't give any guarantees for success. He just shares what worked for him. Because it worked for him, I've been following his advice. I might not be as successful, but I will try. Thanks Michael!
A great little book that is helping me immensely in developing name recognition in the internet world. It is cine to have so many questions about self promotion answered in such a concise manner.
Grateful for a good outline of all that I need to do now that my books are published. Devoting time each day seems like number one rule. Ready to start! Thanks.
