This book's organization follows the Science of Strategy Institute's standard format for teaching strategic principles. The book explains the science of strategy in the terms of nine simple formulas that lead to business success. The book focuses on the specific strategic methods of advancing your position by moving into a new business area. The nine formulas in the book are presented like recipes, describing the ingredients needed and how you put those ingredients together to create a successful enterprise.
Purporting to be the best adoption of Sun Tzu's Art if War from bland aphorisms to modern business strategies, this book presents the absolute bare bones of strategic wisdom. While it can claim much common sense it has two drawbacks.
First, is it really more specific than Sun Tzu's version, or does it suffer from the same limitations of the source material? A lot of the book reads as generalities and vague frameworks.
Second, it seems to be an advertorial for a website or training or some kind of book series. And I wasn't keen to know more.
I liked the books Chinese emphasis on relationships as informants. Helpful. But much of the book was vague notions of position and opportunity which I couldn't get a clear grasp of. Two stars for explaining the Chinese view of friendship so well.
