A seminal work in its field. Augsburger puts forth a very grand and comprehensive view of the issues that face pastors and counselors when seeking to cross cultural boundaries to care for someone. The book is massive and would be too much to digest for a layman, but it deserves 5 stars for content (even though it was outdated by the time I read it. One must keep this in mind and judge it within its context of the 1980s). The book is very rich, almost to the point of being too much to take in at one time. It is full of specific cultural surveys, literature, case studies, and counter-intuitive concepts.
