www.faiththedog.net is a great source for information regarding the subject matters of this book. Faith the dog is a major portion of this book, but the Faith´s family had circumstances of their own to overcome before she became a part of that fami
I couldn't finish this book. Had I bought it, rather than borrow it from the library, I would have returned it. Not only do I not like the characters in the book, I didn't want to read any more about how they raised this dog -- the fact that I had to read half a book about them before I got to the part about the dog notwithstanding! I am horrified to know that this author with all her degrees is actually teaching English to college students. How she got those degrees with such poor writing skills is beyond me. I know this book was written quickly and self-published due to time and money constraints ... but it isn't grammatically sound or even punctuated, not to mention the typos! Not that she can't tell a story ... she can ... but it should have been edited. I cringed on every page. And half way through it, I just didn't want to gasp any more at how she raised her family, not to mention the animals. I just didn't like these people, and I didn't want to know any more about them. This is blatant and harsh criticism, but she can take it, as she has gone through life being blatant and harsh herself. I would have continued with the story, but it read as though she kept talking until she ran out of breath and then she threw in a semi-colon! It finally became one semi-colon too much!
I really wanted to like this book. Having faith and hearing about how faith got her through some major life hurdles before they got Faith the dog was not what threw me off. The writing in general ... the way it was presented and the way it flowed (or in this case did NOT flow). The format of the pages / typeface even turned me off. I really really wanted to read this and like it but because it felt choppy and thoughts were all over the place, I had a difficult time of following it. I truly am sorry .... I always love a true success story; but this book was almost torture for me. Perhaps she should have let a seasoned or experienced writer tell her story ... might have gone better for all involved.
The first part of this book has nothing to do with the two legged dog, Faith. Instead, the author goes on and on and on and on...about her ex husband and his new wife, the abuse they put the daughters through, and custody disputes. Had I known that, I would have completely skipped over the bitterness and sarcasm of the first part and moved forward to he second part. I would not recommend this book...it dragged on and I felt as though the author used the book to bad mouth her ex. (And I have been in her situation... Get over the bad times and move on already!)
I tried to read this, I really did, but after getting about halfway through, the reader has to realize it is not at all about the awesome two legged dog, but more about this woman's divorce and her gripes with a judge. Oh, well...
