Ellicott (1819-1905) was an Anglican scholar, an authority on the Greek and Hebrew languages. He was not a fan of the Revised Translation of the NT Epistles (1856) and so was working on his own translation of the same.
This commentary's 2nd edition was originally published in 1861, and this reprint was made available in 1957.
It is heavily reliant on NT era Greek (it includes the Greek original of the letter), scholarly in style, using the critical apparatus of his time. The book is part of Zondervan's 'Classic Commentary Library'.
