In many underprivileged countries, the church is under constant persecution. Christians everywhere have heard the stories and seen the newscasts. But there are too many who still don't understand. What does persecution really look like up close? And what can we learn from the faithful endurance persecuted Christians so boldly embody? Ronald Boyd-MacMillan, writer-at-large for Open Doors International, has produced the most compelling and comprehensive look at Christian persecution today. With real life stories, he educates readers on the many levels of church persecution, highlights testimonies that have never before been published, and shows what we all can do to remember, reflect, and respond. Compassionate and provocative, Faith That Endures gives readers a path of connection to their persecuted brothers and sisters in a new and vital way, even as it enlightens and encourages us in our local churches and brings us closer to God.
This is a good book. It is a bit different than other books and articles on the persecuted church, as it does not just share stories, though there are plenty of stories told. On the one hand it is easy to read as it is well written (though every so often he lost me), but on the other hand, it is a difficult book to read because it is hard to read about the persecuted church. I appreciated how he showed there are different ways of helping and some are the right tactic for certain situations and times, but not for others. I liked how he showed how we can learn from the persecuted church, instead of looking at them as always the ones in need. The book is a bit of a commercial for Open Doors, though he doesn't name any other organization he seems to be critical of.
This book tells about the persecuted church all throughout the world. It not only breaks down various parts of the world and explains how the church experiences persecution in these places but it also tells what the rest of the world can do to help those that are persecuted and what the non-persecuted church can learn from these believers. It gives you a wonderful perspective of what the church throughout the world is going through.
Outstanding book. Probably the best book on the persecuted church I’ve read. Informative. Educational. It challenges the reader to consider points most charities (or books about extreme persecution) rarely ask you to.
Inspiring and encouraging. The only small criticism is that the book was published in 2006 - 18 years ago. From reading/ Open Doors information, it sadly means some, not all, information is out of date.
An excellent read though. I’d just make sure you try and read recent books about persecution or look at websites to ensure you have a recent/more accurate picture of current stats/situations.
