With a handful of strategies, a stock-market wizard offers an ingenious, proven investment system to maximize profits and minimize risks for all investors
Very simple read to follow a very simple rule to make money. It's so simple you might get bored. Just choose the shares which fall into the category and then forget them until next year. That's it. Simple but perhaps outdated. But does it still work? Have a go. It should work in my opinion.
Very interesting and well written book. Describes a mechanical procedure for investing in Dow Jones Index stocks and beating the index average. Almost half of the book is dedicated to reviewing the history of Dow stocks past and present, which can be tedious filler or interesting reading depending on your viewpoint. The actual (basic) system for beating the Dow takes only a few pages to describe. A number of so called "advanced" techniques are also described - mostly contrarian and certainly interesting. However, it turns out that in the time frame studied (c. 1973-1998), they were all inferior to the basic method. Background and explanations flesh out the rest of the book. Opinion is divided on whether the system still works today (2016) but this book is nevertheless an investment classic that made a huge impact on the investment industry. 5 stars.
After I read the Motley Fool's Guide, I picked this up to further educate myself on the Dogs of the Dow approach to investing. If one ever wondered if the Motley Fool was original, reading this dispelled that notion.
Good, straightforward approach to investing. That I could understand it is a testament to O'Higgins' writing.
