Really good! This book gives a clear and concise description of the Waffen-SS - On page 73 it does say the logo of the British Free Corps is the emblem of "The Legion of St. George " but that is the former name of the BFC until it was renamed to the BFC. You have to pay attention for it all to make sense though.

D.S.V Fosten and R.J. Marrion do a very nice job presenting the Waffen SS uniforms and equipment in a concise, logical manner. A basic level of detail is provided on the formations themselves, as well as some background on their service history. Not thorough, but adequate.

The uniform descriptions and photographs are very good, providing decent detail and close ups of key components. The color plates are poor however, with the colors appearing to be "off" shade a bit. The color plates for the camouflage patterns are terrific for the patterns themselves, but again the colors appear to be tinted incorrectly. Comparisons to both paint and another template seemed to confirm what my eyeballs were detecting... colors that are close, but off just a bit.

The insignia sections are terrific and are incredibly useful. Even the very obscure Muslim SS troops are represented here with their fascinating emblems, scimitar insignia, and fez headgear. I think this section was the strong suit of the book, and deserves real praise. The authors made good use of real photos to highlight the drawn emblems and insignia. Good stuff!

Overall, I really liked the efforts made by the authors and think this book deserves a 4 star rating. A shame the 5th star had to be deducted for the poor colors in the plates. This is not the ultimate source for this subject matter, but it is a great book for introductions to these uniforms.
