Learning to Let Go examines the letting-go why it is so difficult, why it is so important, and God's purpose in it. This book helps parents understand that letting go is a heart attitude and a lifelong process that we practice little by little, moment by moment, as a child grows up, from toddlerhood through middle childhood through adolescence. The book explains what "letting go" is, its biblical basis, how it happens, and its rewards.
The last 3 chapters are the best. I do not believe that all the advice in this book is Biblical, not that it is necessarily unbiblical. I have an older edition so perhaps it has been revised but some of her wisdom is cultural and rooted in a certain period, mainly the 70s & 80s. Parenting is different in our post-truth internet age.
This book was okay, with some helpful ideas, but when the author said her youngest was in elementary school, I felt a twinge of frustration..... It reminded me of sitting at the homeschool conferences listening to speakers talk about how to parent when their oldest was ten years old. I want to hear from someone who has been through it and has experienced it firsthand. A little more distance is helpful!
