I am amazed at how destructive some of the world's personal behaviors are. I think of the word of Wisdom, and of people who fail to obey the law of chastity. It is mind boggling of the damage that often occur in their lives causing them to never really get going on the path of happiness.
Don't let the Church become a bargaining chip between you and the church.
How to motivate children to come to scripture study under their own power
1 Through a private interview
2 It might necessitate a fast
3 A joint prayer
4 We bought every child an alarm clock
5 It is key that the family scripture study is good enough that they want to come & when they miss they will feel bad that they have missed.
Where to hold scripture study? It's hard to do it while eating. ... Lying on the floor doesn't work for my family.
End to end or topical? Yes. I wouldn't be concerned at taking a week or a month to go off to study a topic.
Be sure to use the footnotes as you go along. Don't be racing through the book.
If you obey the truths you are given, your will be given more much more quickly.
Esteem the truth of great worth. One way is to ponder and apply them in all fascets of life. Write them down. Memorizing is a way to get the truth. sharing is another way to get the truths down.
Inviting & Maintaining the Spirit in Family Scripture Study (7 things)
1 Pray
2 Use the scriptures themselves
3 Testify; Always testify. Teach, testify, teach, testify.
4 Use music: Music will bring the spirit of the Lord very quickly. Primary songs are powerful because they are easy, short & powerful
5 Express love & gratitude to God and to man (meaning your wife and children)
6 Share a spiritual experience when appropriate (can use to illustrate a scripture.)
7 Provide priesthood blessings.
