The author describes his sister's wedding, including the preparations, the ceremony in the synagogue, the actions of the rabbi, and the celebration afterward.
In this book, a young Jewish boy's sister Sally is getting married to a man named Larry. It is a fiction book. I would use this book in literacy to teach about plot, characters, and setting. I think the students would like the text because they have probably been to a wedding, been in a wedding, or will eventually attend a wedding. They will be interested in some of the Jewish wedding traditions like the groom smashing the glass wrapped in cloth. Even though the pictures are black and white, there is a great deal of detail the students will enjoy. Using this book, the Jewish wedding tradition can be taught to students learning about different religions.
