This is excellent! Highly informative for Western riders as well as English (so many of these horse books for kids are solely English). Great practical information on showing.
I thought this was a bit more interesting to read than the other horse book about riding lessons. After reading this, I will definately never do horse showing. It's pretty competative, and one would have to start early training to be any good. If kids are really into horses, and thinking seriously about making riding a hobby, this is an informative book to prepare for riding in a horse show. Other than that, I'll just stick to a calm horse who will take me on a trail ride.
When I diligently saved up my money as a kid and bought this book at a local tack store, I was not expecting such a cherished read. To this day, I still skim through the pages, especially before a show, and find solace in the insightful notes for judges, vets, other rider, etc. It is a great read that is remarkably easy to get through, and without fail, it's there as a huge reassurance when I'm plagued with those pre-show jitters. :)
I love this book! My mom got it for me a few years ago and whenever there's a show coming up that I'm nervous for, I re-read it! It gives you so much information about showing that you feel like you're the most knowledgeable equestrian ever! Anybody who shows horses, would fall for this info-packed book!
This book is pretty informative to beginners in the show world, but not necessarily a complete guide..... lots of things your coach will need to help you with. Also, ribbons are given in American version. And the stories aren't well written.
