This book was written by my current prof and it has been the most impactful I’ve read yet. The journey for truth can come in many different forms but by using the five main frames of reference (human, rational, political, cultural, and systems) they are but mean to the end goal rather than the end. I’d say there was still some over the top stuff going on in this but it definitely gave me a greater appreciation for other’s perspectives.
Some interesting ideas, but a bit dense. Not the most valuable leadership book, but has a few ideas worth considering about different frames of analyzing and thinking about leadership and solving problems. The five frames was the most useful part of the book.
I liked the frames of knowing paradigm to offset the primacy of cultural norms, e.g., "rational" thinking and positivst methods as "best." I add a few more frames to Carey's concept at http://bit.ly/owInlB
