She didn’t know what she was—or that what she was could get her killed...
A struggling private detective in Los Angeles, Chase Alcott has no idea about her unique genetic makeup. So when she takes on a new client—an old man with ulterior motives—she’s unaware of the danger she’ll soon face. Traveling to England to solve a mysterious murder at the request of her new client, Chase encounters terrifying creatures she thought only existed in her nightmares—only to find out she’s one of them. Caught in a web of evil and deception after learning some terrifying truths about her long dead parents, Chase doesn’t know who to believe. Does she dare trust the enigmatic Roman, a man with dark secrets of his own?
He knew what she was—he just had no idea what to do about her…
English nobleman, Roman Fernwood, half-werewolf/half-vampire, doesn’t want a mate, especially not a half human/ half-weretiger with no knowledge of what she is. But there’s something about Chase, Roman can’t resist in spite of his determination not to fall in love. Is it her fascinating American spunk and courage, or her stunning cinnamon eyes? Or could it be the passion he senses just beneath her calm, unruffled demeanor? Whatever it is, Roman must keep her safe from those who want to kill her while finding a way to show her what she is without driving her into the arms of the other were who also want her for a mate.
Fate should have considered the consequences before messing with Mother Nature.
A paranormal romantic suspense for all adventurous readers.
The paranormal genre is, without a doubt, my favorite genre to read so I was really looking forward to reviewing this book and it did not disappoint. Take a sexy man, make him into not only a vampire but also a werewolf, throw him in England with that killer accent and make him a nobleman? Drool. Then put him together with a woman that can handle him and sit back and watch the fireworks fly.
Chase is just the kind of female character that I love to read about. She is strong, smart and sassy. She knows what she wants and goes after it. She doesn't need a man in her life, but who is she to resist when the opportunity presents itself in the form of tall, dark and yummy?
Roman is an aloof English aristocrat that has no interest in finding a mate, much to his adoptive father's dismay. His father sets out to find him one anyway, sending Chase his way. Once he meets Chase, and realizes that she doesn't know what she is, he can't turn her away.
Chase's best friend and business partner, David (who is drooling over Roman as well), goes to England with her. David is a fun secondary character that is well developed and adds to the book. Then there is Grayson and Drake. They are part of the local were-tiger pack and both sexy in their own right. If I had to pick a secondary character that I wanted to see more of in a future book it would probably be one of these three.
Chasing Destiny is a well written book with well developed characters and a fun new world of vampires and shape-shifters, with plenty of page turning action, fun characters and humor. The way Roman and Chase go at each other is funny and realistic. David is the friend you'll wish you could have that is loyal, caring and amusing. His reactions to situations are totally believable and amusing. The added characters from other were-packs are mysterious and sexy and will leave you wanting to see more of them.
The background that the author gave Chase adds a sort of an “Anastasia” mysteriousness to her, with the potential for a prequel sometime in the future, if Ms. O'Neal is so inclined. It would be a history that would add depth to not only Chase, but the entire were-tiger culture in the book.
It looks like Ms. O'Neal may plan to make this a series, based on the title but that is pure speculation (and hope) on my part. I look forward to being able to revisit some of these characters in the future if that is the case and I'll keep my fingers cross that Grayson and/or Drake are in future installments.
If you enjoy paranormal romance, vampires and shape-shifters – you will definitely want to check out this book. It is one that may end up on your keeper shelf. Wouldn't want to miss out on that would you?

Chase Alcott's latest case as a P.I., has led her to England at her client's request, in order to investigate a string of murders. Weary of her client's mysterious behavior, she decides to bring her business partner and best friend David along with her. In England she meets the handsome but arrogant Roman Fernwood, her client's grandson, who is to assist them on their case and clear his name of these strange murders that list him as the prime suspect. As she begins her investigation, Chase not only uncovers who's really behind the murders, she learns the truth about her origins, a truth that will alter her life forever.
Take a strong-willed and outspoken female private investigator from LA with special talents, pair her up with a sexy English nobleman who's half-vampire, half-werewolf and you're bound to get some sparks going! Chase is the kind of heroine you gravitate to from the start. She's strong, mouthy and won't let anyone tell her what to do, she's a very real character (well except for the shifter part!). I wasn't expecting her to accept who she was or the paranormal world around her so quickly and found that to be a little out of character for her, but she handled it better than I would have. Her chemistry with Roman is both fun and seductive, I couldn't get enough of those two and their sexy banter throughout the story!
Roman comes off as an arrogant aristocrat when he's first introduced but quickly becomes this Alpha-male with a raw sexual magnetism once he's introduced to Chase. Their romance is a forbidden love, being from different species and that makes it all the more exciting. Roman has vowed never to find a mate but that all changes when he meets Chase. He doesn't know why he instantly feels an attraction to her, even while knowing what she truly is and finds himself opening up to the possibility of love the more time he spends with her. Watching the Alpha male who claims to be an eternal bachelor as a love-struck puppy is always a treat for me and Roman definitely delivers!
In Chasing Destiny, Pepper O'Neal has created a unique twist to the vampire/werewolf lore that makes this book truly stand out. Paranormal Romance lovers will fall for the forbidden love story between Chase and Roman and Urban Fantasy fans will enjoy the mystery, suspense and intense revelations. Filled with secrets, passion and thrills, this is one amazing story to indulge in!
**I received a copy of this book for review purposes.
A female PI travels from L.A. to England on a case unaware of her unique heritage or the danger it places her in.
Chase Alcott has no idea that she's not human. Or that her Weretiger nature is about to burst out full force. Roman Fernwood is a werewolf-vampire hybrid who wants to discover the truth behind a recent death at his estate. His father hires Chase and her partner to investigate. Roman knows at once that she's going to bring him nothing but trouble once the local Weres discover her existence, yet he can't help being attracted to her. What follows is a paranormal romance full of action, mystery, and plenty of passion.
Three different Weretiger Prides lay claim to Chase, the one near Roman's estate, one in Los Angeles, and one in Lithuania. This last one is a nightmare. It's also the one she was born into, and the leader has good reason to want her back.
Chase is funny and full of sharp edges that hide a loss buried so deeply, even she is unaware of it until the trip to England. She gets a nice match in Roman. He's less annoying than most alpha heroes. He also doesn't try very hard to avoid falling for her.
Pepper O'Neal puts Chase into some tight spots. There's a section toward the end when she's imprisoned by the villain that had me on edge. The settings are all well done. Whether L.A., Roman's estate, or the moors of Scotland, I felt transported there. The whole book provides a truly immersive experience.
Roman takes too long to figure out who the villain is. We readers learn the "who" if not the "why" before he does. But the book has a killer climax. And there's so much more to appreciate about the story than I can cover here. Such as Drake Gatos, head of the local Weretiger pride, and his number two, Gray. Great characters. Also, Chase's partner. David is so funny and full of life.
BLOOD FEST: CHASING DESTINY had me so worked up by the end, that I rushed to download the second book in the series CURSING FATE. Not a free gift from the author, by the way. And well worth the price. I cannot wait for the third book.
I can't tell you just how much I enjoyed this book, The main female character Chase, who is a private detective, which I find interesting enough that is her career. I haven't read too many with the females as PI's but then maybe its the books I choose. I love that she is sassy, stubborn and kick's ass!.
Roman, half vampire and half lycan well now I could have the best of both worlds, definitely my kind of hero. I also loved the interesting unique take on the vampire and lycan lore. I know I have said this before but I am constantly amazed at how many different versions of the vampire myth as well as the lycan, that is being written.
This book was fun wild ride, that has you chuckling out loud, Not one part of this storyline did I find boring though towards the end I did scratch my head on one thing. Wondering how was that possible, I truly hope there is another book to follow this one, I would definitely love to read more. I am also going to be checking out Pepper's other works.
Through my status as a reviewer at Book Lovin Bitches I received this book. Pepper Oneal is a fine author and this was a first for me from her. Not to mention I'm into this kind of Historical Fiction mood so I was thoroughly surprised to get into Blood Fest: Chasing Destiny. A sucker for an alpha and a Brit to boot....purrrr. I also love my witty, feisty heroine.
This book had that and so much more. The characters from the protagonists to the gay PI partner to the eccentric mortal father of Roman Fernwood were a true joy. While paranormal romance's definition is so broad but Pepper has a definite signature that sets her apart and ahead.
Chase and Roman are both half breeds of species that don't usually get along but that only adds to the tension along with a good mystery wrapped into a stunning romance. My suggestion is read it and enjoy.
I really enjoyed reading this book! It has a great mix of paranormal beings with a twist. The storyline is very fast paced and gets you hooked into Chase's drama that is unfolding in front of her. Chase's character is also unique and different. The love story that evolves between Chase and Roman is unique and has some heat to it(*wink *wink). The interactions between all the characters is relate-able and believable (if we were supernatural beings)! Pepper O'Neal has a great book that takes you in from the first word and leaves you wanting more with the last! If you are a fan of the paranormal then this is definitely a book to add to your TBR list!!
