From the colonial period through the early nineteenth century, Father Thomas J. Murphy writes a compelling chronology and in depth analysis of Jesuit slaveholding in the state of Maryland.
I guess a good perspective to read about the whole context surrounding Baltimore/Jesuit slavery, but it felt like the whole time the author was attempting to excuse Jesuit slaveholding by blaming Protestants or saying things like "if _____ hadn't happened, the Jesuits might not have continued to hold slaves." Like yes, true, but they did so why are you pointing it out. It comes across as putting the slaveholders in a position where their decision to own people was due to chance or random events in time. I think that is not a good way to take responsibility for the faults of your organization.
