For ten long years Carter Lang’s secret desire for Leslie Brighten burned relentlessly. His secretary and fifteen years his junior, Leslie was off limits—a potential liability Carter refused to chance. But on the day of his early retirement, Carter discovers Leslie in an erotic situation that not only changes his mind about pursuing the beautiful object of his intense passion, it will change his life forever.
I remember reading about Texas in an Illinois grade school and thinking I probably would never see the great state where real cowboys ride their horses to work every day and everyone wears western hats and boots. Then again, I never dreamed I would elope in Gibraltar with a Navy man who hailed from the Lone Star state. But here I am, smack dab in the middle of Texas, still married to the same wonderful man and boasting not only the greatest daughter on the planet, but three dogs that are as big as long horns.
In between grade school and now, my journey through life has taken me all over the United States, as well as many places throughout the world. Using my travel experience as a guide and peppering in interesting characters I’ve met along the way, I love nothing better than weaving tales of romance and leaving readers yearning for adventures of their own.
His at Last by Brenna Zinn His at Last was a refreshing tale of hidden love and lust. I enjoyed the author’s handle on the insecurities keeping Carter and Leslie apart. An age gap can’t leave a love like theirs apart, but those insecurities can break a heart. I truly enjoyed the humor, the fun, and the erotic blend that wouldn’t let me put this book down. Absolutely a delightful read.
Ah, this is a damn sweet book. The insecurity on both sides is endearing. What if he doesn’t want me? What if she knocks me back? Carter and Leslie have liked one another for a looooong time. He wonders if he’s too old for her, and she wonders if being middle class has stopped any chances of him wanting anything to do with her other than her being his secretary.
A classic tale of people not saying how they feel in case of rejection. Oh, the wasted time! That’s what I thought when reading. They could have done so much already! But when push comes to shove, with the realisation that they may well never see one another again once Carter retires and Leslie moves away, the pair of them know they’ve either got to do something about their feelings or forever live with the regret of never having at least tried.
Best Bits: The candle flickered, making his whisky-colored eyes shimmer like liquid gold.
“…Did I do the right thing?” “Oh, yes.”
Verdict: I’m so glad they got together. His at Last is one of those books where you know from the start they’re going to get their happy ever after, so you’re safe in that knowledge to lay back and enjoy going on their journey with them. I laid back in the bath and watched the pair of them struggle with trying to get the courage to approach the other—but fate had other ideas, throwing them together at a wedding. Very sweet, in the best possible way, and a book you can sigh over at the end because they got what they wanted.
The story was sweet and told mostly from the guy's perspective. It is short and beautiful how two people who love each other are afraid to make a move to get together because he is 15 years her senior and her boss.
At the start of the story, the male lead catches the female lead, his secretary, in he private bathroom masturbating. While he is watching her, he jerks off himself. Since he is retiring, he is no longer her boss and uses the wedding a few days before she moves to get the courage to make a move on her. When the female lead catches the bouquet, he bribes the groom with 30K to make sure the male lead gets the garter. They dance and he kisses her on the dance floor. Afterward, he takes her to his hotel room where he has everything set up with sex toys and candles. They have amazing sex, but because of his age, he has to sleep after a few rounds. She is young and can go all night, but he can't. (I love how they don't make it unrealistic by making the old dude have the stamina of a young dude.) There is some drama when she leaves his room to get some things from her room, he thinks she left him. However, it is soon resolved with both stating their feelings and her accepting his proposal.
Things I didn't like: I don't like how they both have liked each other for so long but have never made a move. I mean, didn't either of ever date and show some jealousy at the other's partners?? Also, how did he all of a sudden get so much courage just because he retired? Will she have to give up her career to marry a man who is going to retire on some quite island? Why is he retiring at 48?
Oh well. It was a quick read that I skimmed. I don't regret reading it.

No one would know it from the looks of successful businessman Carter Lang, but insecurity has finally reared it's ugly head. A little age difference shouldn’t make him feel insecure, but it does, which is why he never made his move on his long-time secretary Leslie Brighten. Now on the verge of an early retirement, Carter decides to make one last power play but this time for Leslie.
Leslie has fantasized about her boss for a long time. A fantasy isn't all she wants to take with her when she leaves for her new job in Chicago – she wants one night of the real thing. Making a move on Carter Lang may not be the smartest thing seeing as how he only dates women of a certain class. Since she won't be seeing him again, why not give him something to remember her by.
Fair warning this short story is hot, hot, HOT! There is plenty solo and couples play with a variety of toys. Carter and Leslie were made for each other and why they never acted on their obvious chemistry sooner, will forever remain a mystery. Both characters reveal their vulnerabilities to the reader right from the start to form a connection. The ending, although happy, was still pleasantly surprising. My only complaint is that I wanted to see more of what happened to Carter and Leslie. Ms. Zinn penned a fluidly written tale of a love grown over time and passionately discovered. Readers looking for a contemporary erotic romance should absolutely read this one.
Memang dasar ternyata si Leslie naksir berat sama Carter mantan boss nya, dia pancing-pancinglah kalo dia punya banyak sekali sex toys di rumah nya.
Lalu mulailah bermain dengan "back door" hhmmphh.....(no way!)
Bangun dengan perasaan merasa di tinggalkan, Carter menyusl Leslie , dan akhirnya Carter meminta Leslie untuk tidak pindah ke Chicago, dan tinggal bersama Carter dan menikahinya.
That's it. So simple. And the love making terlalu banyak menggunakan "alat bantu" dan "back door" .. no wonder the cover looks like that .
For a short read...the author is definitely getting their point across in this book...I will have to say...I definitely enjoyed my SEXY adventure with these two characters Carter Lang & Leslie Brighten...Will definitely be back to read more from this author...5 Star read for me :)
Reviewed for THC Reviews "4.5 stars" His at Last is a stand-alone, erotic romance novelette of about sixty-five pages. Carter is a wealthy businessman who’s been in love with his secretary, Leslie, from afar for the entire ten years they’ve worked together. Even though he’s crazy about her, he’s kept his distance, partly because of the nature of their working relationship and partly because at forty-eight and fifteen years her senior, he thinks he’s too old for her. Little does he know, though, that Leslie feels the same way about him, but, coming from a humble background, thinks she’s not good enough for him. Carter is turning over his business to his former partner’s sons and taking an early retirement, while Leslie is taking a new job hundreds of miles away. On his last day, Carter forgets his briefcase and returns to the office to accidentally spy Leslie self-pleasuring in her private powder room. Neither of them knows the other is there, but it stirs Carter’s desire to a breaking point. He knows it’s now or never to make a move, and he’ll have just one last chance to possibly make Leslie his at the wedding of one of the business’s new owners.
Overall, I really enjoyed His at Last. Having Carter and Leslie know each other for so long and have loved each other from afar for that entire time made the quick progression of the story much more believable. I really admired that Carter maintained healthy boundaries while they were working together and didn’t make a move until he was no longer her boss even though it meant putting his feelings on hold. Carter being inexperienced with sex toys despite his age and Leslie being the adventurous one was a cute role reversal. It also left me with the impression that Carter probably wasn’t a serious playboy despite his long-held bachelorhood, which was a welcome touch, too. The only thing about the story that could have been better is that there were a few places I was having a little trouble envisioning what was happening, so a bit more detail would have been nice. Also there’s some awkward wording and quite a few typos that a good editor should have caught. Otherwise, though, this was a fun, steamy read, my first by Brenna Zinn, and one that’s left me open to checking out her other work.
Note: This book contains explicit language and sexual content, including use of sex toys and anal sex, which could be objectionable to sensitive readers.
The male MC is a winer, moaning and groaning about the age difference. The female MC is unappealing in her vulgarity. All it is animal lust. NO, hot and steamy. The whole story is unappealing for me.
Two people who know they are in love with the other, but the other does not know. It's a short journey to being completely oblivious to the other's feelings to the knowledge. But it's cute watching their reactions and sexy as hell as well.
