The Whitfield Rancher #2
David: The Whitfield Rancher
Sunny, or Sunshine Davis, is a well-known investigative reporter. After her recent article shuts down a drug lab, she just disappears. People everywhere are looking for her. Truth is she’s been shot and left for dead. Tanner, a vampire, has other plans for the feisty reporter. He needs her help, so he saves her. His old friend, Ollie Whitfield, owes him a favor, so he sends her there to lay low for a while. David Whitfield is on a deadline with his publisher. When he’s writing, he’s in a world of his own. When his grandda, Ollie, asks him to hide out a friend, he’s all for it. He’d do anything for his grandda. What David doesn’t expect is for the woman he’s supposed to be hiding out to be his mate. A very hurt mate that has his tiger in a possessive uproar. Because Sunny technically died before Tanner could revive her, she has a little difficulty remembering the events just prior to her death, but when she does the revelation rocks her to her core. And her baggage can put all the Whitfields in danger.

In this second book of "The Whitfield Rancher" series, we get to meet Tanner, a very old vampire, who has saved the life of, Sunshine, aka Sunny, a very talented and thorough journalist after she'd been shot. He needed her to see. The man she was investigating had Fredrick, Tanner's mate and he was somehow blocked from being able to find him himself. Being as Tanner and Ollie, the Whitfield grandfather, were old friends Ollie was asked to protect Sunny until other arrangements could be made and Ollie agreed. As Fate and Kathi S. Barton would have it, Sunny was David's, fated mate. This was a drama-filled storyline with all the angst, emotion, twists, and turns we've come to expect along with the humor in these characters' personalities. Oh, and don't let me forget Flora, Tanner's Fae and long time friend. I can't wait to see what this author has in store for Joshua.

Sunshine (Sunny), an investigative reporter, is well-known for her dedication to uncovering the truth in regards to her articles. While that serves her well professionally, it endangers her personally, as evidenced by the fatal bullet wounds she received. Yes, I said fatal. No, she isn't a zombie. But she was brought back thanks to the timely help of someone.
David, a writer, has been working hard to ensure he meets his deadline, but even so, when his beloved grandda asks for a favor, David readily agrees. It seems his grandda is also helping a longtime friend by agreeing to find a safe place for Sunny to recover, and stay hidden as she completes her article.
Upon meeting, David knows instantly that Sunny is his, but danger is following her, and though the source is the same, the threats are from more than one direction. However, Sunny refuses to cower in fear and continues her goal to take down the man responsible for his mistreatment, and murder, of others.
As David and Sunny begin their new life as a mated couple, they work together to not only finish David's book, but also to do what's needed to ensure Sunny's safety.
Who shot Sunny? Can she trust those who should care about her? How far will those after her go? Can David keep her safe? Will they get their HEA?
One-click now and follow along as two people are brought together by dangerous circumstances and discovering the one meant to be theirs.

Sunshine is a journalist that is not afraid to go after a story, she doesn't give up and if she has you in her sites you might as well admit defeat. Her latest story literally kills her but a vampire will not let her die and her life is forever changed. David agreed to help hide a friend of his Grandad's, when she shows up hurt his beast recognizes her as his mate and things get interesting. I love getting to know new characters in a series, Ms. Barton always throws in some interesting addition's that keep things lively. Vampires, shifters, Fairies, determined bad guys and secrets from the past keep the storyline flowing and the reader on the edge of their seat. Interesting twists, friendships, love and acceptance add depth to the plot creating another pleasurable read for a quiet afternoon. As always when I get the end, I am always eager to jump into the next story and hate that I have to wait. (pout)

Loved it
Love this series. Ollie is helping out and old friend by protecting a women from the people trying to kill her, by hiding her at his grandson David's place. David would do anything to help out his grandad. When he meets Sunny he is shocked to find she is his mate.
Sunny is slowly regaining her memories. She knows Tanner saved her life. She is shocked when David claims her as his mate. She doesn't want to bring danger to his family. She hasn't met Dylan and Flora.
Loved David and Sunny's story. Intriguing set up for things to come. Can't wait for the next book.

Very Good 2!
This book was very good to in the good vs bad plot as the heroine's family was the bad seed in this book.
Sunshine Davis is an investigative reporter & was working on a case when her twin brother shot her & left her for dead. However, she was saved by a very old vampire & then was sent to Ohio to look up Ollie Whitfield.
Ollie is David's grandfather; Ollie has asked David for his help in keeping Sunny safe. David agreed not knowing that she's his mate.
You'll have to read the book to find out not only how David & Sunny meet but also what happens to Sunny's brother.

Sunny is an investigative reporter who has reported a story that put her on the list of Alfred James. When she's shot and killed, a message from Alfred James, she's saved but has no idea who she is. All she knows is the guy who saved her is sending her to the Whitfield ranch to hide her and allow her to practice her new ability.
"Very strong as well as mouthy. Much like you." Sunny smiled. "I don't know if you realize this, but that wasn't a compliment."
David thought he was just doing a favor for his grandfather. Allowing the "damsel" as his grandfather called her to stay in his home was no hardship. But when she arrives he realizes she's his mate, a very injured mate.
But for Sunny and David continue on with their lives and mating she must confront her brother and sister who are constantly mooching off of Sunny. They also discover there is more to Sunny's murder attempt than she even realized.
"You are a wonderful person, Dylan, but your habit of killing first then not having anyone to question later is a bit taxing on friendships."
