Discovering America
This compelling memoir speaks directly to today's political activists. By interweaving struggles against discrimination, racism and war, and against the world of patriarchy, corporate power, and US imperialism with her own background of emotionally abusive experiences, Mary Wentworth shows readers that the personal cannnot be separated from the political. Whether inside a prison in New Hampshire or inside a political campaign, Wentworth describes the action in detail. With its incisive analysis, Discovering A Political Journey is an enduring record of the past and a must read for those who want to understand the crises of the present.

An impressive autobiographical account of an activist's life. Mary Wentworth (1929-2022) came to activism later than some. She had married and given birth to 6 daughters before the tides of change in the 60's led to her awakening. She was a pioneer in the women's movement in the 60's, and her account of that is rich with period detail. She fought against racism and nuclear power. She traveled to China, East and West Germany, Cuba, Nicaragua and Honduras in search of a more complete understanding of what might be possible. As a friend recalled, she "was a fearless and fierce advocate for social justice and the inclusion of all community voices." This obit provides an overview of her life: https://www.legacy.com/us/obituaries/...
