Epiphany Wright, Keisha Moore, Shana Scott spend their teenage years as best friends growing up in hood of southside Jamaica Queens. Now as adults their friendship is put to the test when envy, built up animosity, hidden betrayal and the bad boys in their lives causing more havoc come into play, everyday becomes a struggle to keep it tight. With all that's already riding against them when drastic situations occur will these girls be down for one another or just plain Sheisty.
This read is ok. I’m really trying to step outside of my norm and give other genres a shot at finding a GoodRead or at the very least a decent read. I will not complain, I figured what this read would be like and I was not too far from it. With these types of reads I personally need strong character development or I need the read’s context to be funny, only a little of the former, none of the latter. But to be perfectly honest I know all of these females and it definitely was a reminder of drama back in the day.
Epiphany, Keisha and Shana are best friends that chose different paths as they got older. Epiphany basically believed you had to pay to play. With Shana you couldn't really knock her hustle but the way she handled certain situations were uncalled for. Keisha was the most level headed of the three but along the way caught herself in some mess. Smitty did Epiphany wrong but she set herself up in that situation. Just when it seemed Epiphany thought she would be settling down she found out what C-God was really up to. I was shocked when Shana started helping C-God with more than just his business. Chasity was a straight nutcase and her actions had me questioning if she had some hidden motives. I also hated how it was so easy for K.C.to persuade Shana to help with things. Keisha would mess things up on more than one occasion. I understood she wasn't getting the attention she wanted or needed from Tucker but she could've handled things a little better. It seemed people were being sheisty no matter what, with no regards to who got hurt in the process. Things are definitely heating up with that ending. Who is being sheisty towards Keisha and trying to ruin her happiness, did Epiphany at least hit her target, has Shana gotten herself in a more complicated situation after Smitty helped, what's to come between Keisha and Tucker, is there more to Chasity, and how much shiestier can one get?
This was the first book that I have read by this author and when I started reading it I wasn't sure that this was the book for me but as I got into it this book was great and I must say I can't wait to read the second book.
Let me preface this by saying this is my first dabble in Urban Fiction and I dabbled in it for my Master's class. I also listened to it on audio; maybe reading it in an actual book would have been a better choice. Besides it being a new genre, besides it being out of my comfort zone, besides it being unrelatable to me personally....I just didn't like it. The chapters felt choppy, there were too many characters, I couldn't keep track of who was friends with who, who was enemies with who, who was sleeping with who, and who was out to kill who. The book was short, so there wasn't a lot of time for character development among the three leading ladies, but even so, I don't feel like I formed any sort of attachment to any of them or care what happened to them. For example, the book ended with one of the girls getting shot and bleeding out begging for her life. I don't even know which girl it was or care enough about her to want to read the next book to see if she makes it. Maybe if there was more to the story, if it was a little bit longer to really allow time for the reader to get to know the characters, it would be a bigger success in my eyes.
This book is about three girls who grew up together in New York. They all had different lifestyles but somehow they became friends. Their names are Keisha, Epiphany, And Shana they have been best friends since they were little. Keisha grew up with an alcoholic mother and she had two little sisters. Keisha doesn’t have the same father as her two little sisters and her childhood wasn’t that great. Most of the time when Keisha’s mother would get drunk she would stay at Epiphany’s house, which was like her second home. When Keisha became older she had everything a girl would dream of. She’s engaged to a man that she’s has known since she was 14 and she has a baby on the way. Her life was so perfect she couldn’t ask for anything else because she had it all. Epiphany was raised in New York but she lived in the suburbs of New York. Her father was a big time drug dealer. Epiphany had everything handed to her on a silver plate because of her dad. Keisha wished that she had Epiphany’s life because it just seemed so perfect. Little did Epiphany’s parents know that she was getting molested buy her father’s little brother. When Epiphany grows up she becomes a gold digger. She just sleeps with men so they can pay her bills and take her shopping. Sometimes she wished she had Keisha’s life because she gets tired of how she is living her lifestyle. Shana is kind of the crazy and extreme one out of the bunch. She grew up in the projects of New York with her Mother. Shana lives a good life her childhood was fine and she loved her best friends. Even though she and Epiphany has a love hate relationship she still will have her back no matter what. Shana does drugs but just for fun but then she starts selling drugs. She also has a fling with this girl until her husband gets out of jail. Epiphany, Keisha, and Shana all endure some trial and tribulations while trying to become stronger. Keisha and Tucker (fiancé’) are having some trouble right now because Tucker found out Keisha cheated and he was so hurt. Now their wedding is on hold and Keisha is trying to do everything in her power to fix their relationship. Epiphany is in the hospital because one of the she was messing with shot her. The reason she got is because C-God (Epiphany’s boyfriend) best friend died and he thought that Epiphany had something to do with it but she didn’t. Shana is doing okay for now but she hopes K.C. (Husband) doesn’t find out about her fling she had with this crazy girl. The reason I say this is because K.C. is homophobic, when he was little his friends used to make fun of him for his mom being gay. Yes I would recommend this book to a friend because you can always learn a lesson from a book like this. I would probably recommend this book to Lisa because we both read the same type of books. The lesson she would probably learn is don’t make assumptions because in the end you don’t know what’s going to happen.
The book I read is called Sheisty by T.N Baker. This fiction book takes you on a bumpy ride! Three bestfriends are tearing apart because of men and money, that's all it takes. Trust is taken away and tension grows! Keisha,Epiphany and Shana were bestfriends since they were teens now that they've grown up to be older adults everything starts to change. All these girls want is Sex, Money and Men! Keisha gets pregant by the love of her life and puts her family before anything, while Epiphany and Shana loose trust towards each other. Shana messes with Epiphany's boyfriend on the low and this is what starts the drama between them both. Sheisty is a interesting book because it's realistic and is about everything that goes on in the streets! My favorite character was Keisha, I think Keisha was more on her grown woman then Shana and Epiphany. She had her little family, she had money, she had it all. I thought the scenes could've been more visual but besides that this was a good book! I would recommend this book to young adults because they're more mature. Sheisty is a similar book to
because it was also about friends who became enemies. I really enjoyed reading Sheisty.
What can I say. Love this book dang picked it up this morning done with it before bed time I just couldn't put it down. I have to get Still Sheisty now. Shana omg this girl had 2 different lifestyles one with a chick on her back then K.C all about what he going to do to C-God when he get out. Now Keisha had her cake and eating it to. I just can't wait to see what happens with her and Tucker in Still Sheisty. But, I had to give it for E that girl was all about her S**t at the end. Giving it to T.N Baker good book.
These 3....This book had the perfect title to describe Epiphany, Keisha & Shauna. I must say these females have a lot going on in their lives. T.N. Baker provided a good storyline & short descriptive chapters that made for a good read. Looking forward to reading Still Sheisty to see what additional drama these 3 provoke in others lives.
I will give any genre a shot and this was recommended to me as a classic of urban fiction. Let's just say that I am obviously not the intended audience and I found no redeeming value or literary quality to the story, characters, style or tone. At least I can say I tried.
so this book had me in my seat the whole damn time. and the ending got me like I NEED THE SECOND BOOK !! epiphany is one of those "you gotta pay to play"ass bitches.. and i dont really have no respect for her especially being the type of successful family she comes from. she goes through alot of stuff in this book due to herself.
keisha i loved her at one point and then she slowly started turning me off with her trashy ass actions. she used every excuse as to why she couldnt stay faithful to her man who she was suppose to be marrying.
shana she was a lowkey grimy bitch she would be the type of broad that i wouldnt bring my dog around outta fear that she would fuck him. i was just waiting for her dirty deed to get out in this book and it never did.
cgod was a foul cheating ass hoe. and he damn near did epiphanys whole line of friends. and he had all them damn kids and babymamas aint no way i would ever look his way
tucker was such a good man he was trying to get out of the game but it kept pulling him back in. and he treated keisha so good man. i felt so bad for him at the ending of the book. im ready for this second book this shit had me reading it non stop like i was thinking about the damn book when i wasnt reading it and what would happen next. T.N. baker did her damn thing in this book
I wasn't sure about this book. I started it and realized I had to get to know all these new characters in a new series of books. I was hooked very quickly. The girls are industrious and do what they feel like they need to to get ahead in life. There are many mistakes that are made that leads, at least to me, a shocking ending. I can't wait to get my hands on the next book.
The was a funny book to me but it related to everyday life. This is a great book and a great read. I would recommend for everyone to read this book. It kind of puts you in the mind of your teenager days and the things that you may have went through.
sheisty was a over all a pretty good book, it told the story of what happens to some women that grow up in the project. the mane characters were three women named Epiphany wright, Keisha Moore, and Shana Scott that as kids were best friend but as adults the still remain friend but they want the same bound. epiphany wright is what most people would call a free spirit, she does and says most thing without thinking about it. she tell people how she really feels no matter who they are except the many guys that finance her life. as a child she didnt get the best work ethic because everything was provide for her so she never really cared for jobs. Keisha Moore is epiphany's best friend as children but as adults they brunched of into there life
Can a teenage friendship survive adulthood. In my opinion, T.N. Baker has written a very realistic coming of age tale that happens to take place in the hood. Close friends since their teens, Epiphany, Keisha, and Shana are now grown up, but with their hood mentality accompanying the young women into adulthood, their morals and values are rather skewed.
The love of material possession, men of dubious character, and plain greed test the friendship.
There is a cliffhanger ending with a preview of book two at the end of the story. Thus, to find out how everything ties together, the reader has to buy the sequel.
Some of the things could have been avoided if the girls would have stuck together .. Ephihany annoyed me she was all about self and didn't value her friendships. She thought she was better then everyone else .. Keisha is the only one who seems like she having a good relationship going on but somehow she manages to screw it up .. Shana girl is letting a man from jail rule her selling her hopes and dreams and using her to get back on . Tanya just wants to be loved ..
Shocked is the only way to explain how I feel. I still think Shana is the one who set Keisha up at her party, and I feel bad for Epiphany even though she was a bitch most times. Also I'm thinking K.C and Smitty had something to do with Mike getting killed and not Tucker and Malikai. But off to read the second part.
I hate cliff hangers and this book has one. Now in order for me to determine what happened I need to purchase the second book. Why can't authors write the story in one book? The book was decent for an urban story and I like narrator Nicole Small because she brings another level to the story. I reserve my full review for the ending of the series. Hopefully the second installment is the last.
