OK. You’re going for a short visit to one of the most beautiful and culturally rich cities in the entire world and you have very few days to prepare this escapade. This is the book for you.
Susannah Perry understands Florence and its inhabitants. She wrote this book initially by 1996 (I think) and it has been competently updated. Be aware of the date of this edition, I strongly advise you to always buy the updated edition of any travel guide. This is an advice for all travel guides, but especially for those with practical information (such as prices, opening hours for monuments, transportation, etc) and not only showing the most impressive tourist sites (those buildings tend to remain in the same place, do you feel me?).
If you’re going for a longer visit and have plenty of time to prepare your holidays, this isn’t the most appropriate book. You might want to buy the DK guide and search the net for the most appealing features in the city for your tastes. But if you have no time and you’re in for a short visit, let Susannah Perry, a connoisseur of Florence, guide you. You will have a special short stay (two day) route detailed for you, the main sites, secondary (but astonishing) sites, what and where to buy, lists of ristorante, trattoria and Pizzerie organized by price ranges, and don’t forget to eat the most delicious Ice-creams in the world – they’re in Florence! She divided the Town in three parts and guide you through each successively. There is also some information regarding out of town excursions to some remarkable sites near Florence.
The guide gives you some information regarding the 25 sites you should visit in this museum city, which are: Bargello, Battistero, Campanile, Capella Brancacci, Capella dei Pazzi, Cappelle Medicee, Duomo, Galleria degli Uffizi, Fiesoloe, Galleria dell'Accademia, Giardino di Boboli, Museo Galileo, Museo dell'Opera del Duomo, Palazzo Medici-Riccardi, Palazzo Pitti, Palazzo Vecchio, Piazza della Signoria, Ponte Vecchio, San Lorenzo, San Marco, San Miniato al Monte, Santa Croce, Satíssima Annunziata, Via de'Tornabuoni.
All have gorgeous photographs, contact information, price range, and accessibilities for the handicapped, site and visit hours.
One of the few disadvantages of this guide is (in my humble opinion) to put too much weight on the shopping sites. Obviously, this is a personal opinion. I would prefer more information regarding the secondary cultural sites such as the Museo Leonardo Da Vinci or the Museo Archeologico, than a 10 page listing of stores divided by the several areas of the city (which although some are really monuments by themselves, most are just fine stores with good mostly local products).
The new edition also have a sturdy map that you’ll find useful in your explorations of Firenze. Information on how to move around the city, public transportation, local etiquette, important contact information and some useful phrases are also provided (Italians from Tuscany are a truly wonderful people, warm, friendly, and they absolutely love when tourists try to speak Italian).

Compact and handy introductory guide to Florence. A little dated, being published at 2010, it was still a good supplement to my Italy travel research. The guide gives highlights, tips, and basic information on 25 sites. The book also gave some shopping and eating options along with essential facts and information on how to navigate Florence and Italy. Good source of information.

My favorite slim guidebook. All of the important stuff. Price rages, neighborhoods, hours, places to see, places to eat. It was extremely helpful while still not missing anything I really needed to know.
