The Berbers of Morocco

Rate this book
A collection of photographs capturing the rich traditions and everyday life of the Berbers. Within the borders of Morocco, and unknown to many of the thousands of tourists who visit the country each year, live the Berbers, whose way of life has hardly changed for centuries. For two years Alan Keohane lived among them. He travelled with nomads, stayed in villages, participated in family life and joined in local celebrations and festivals.

Very illustrated book, every page is a picture with a short explanation/description under. The writer, going on treks, accompanied by a local all along the way, followed the lives of multiple tribes of Berbers in multiple locations across the Moroccan Atlas, offering a diverse depiction of this proud and traditional people.
The focus is on their lifestyle and daily survival, and the environment in which they survive, not on the Berber arts, patterns, tattoos or other aspects.
His view is very respectful and humble, which is much appreciated.
