a.c. Mason or Mason to her friends, is the mother of two amazing children, a daughter (23y) and son (18y). She is a multi-published, multi-award nominated Multicultural Romance and Mainstream fiction writer. Her work has been nominated for six Bookie Awards, two Swirl awards and The AMB Ovation Awards (The Angie) an inductee to the Academy of AA/IR/Multicultural Fellows Awards.
An early childhood diagnosis of dyslexia and dysgraphia should have been enough to dissuade her from the pen but her gifted intellect and need to escape the realities of the chaos bombarding her were too strong. She vanished into the alternate realities she created to slaying the very real threats she was helpless to stop. She lives with the chronic illness of fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS), while struggling her way through posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
Born from the union of her Scottish and Belgian mother and an African American and Cherokee father, a.c. Mason’s youth was filled with dichotomies and moving from place to place. She developed a curiosity to explore through writing the seedy side of our nature and desires. Add to that her fascination with theology, politics, history, horror, and erotica. And voila, her distinct voice surfaced. Given her own diverse background, she writes stories that represent the world she grew up in. She enjoys delving into the realms of the unknown and blurring the caution lines. Her stories are the place where darkness meets human desire and fairy-tale endings are not promised but earned.
She is fluent in French and English. An avid traveler, she has stepped foot on most of Canada, both of the United States seaboards, England and Europe. For the past seventeen years of her life, she has worked with one foot in the past spanning from 18th century, the Bering Strait theory to modern day and now late Victorian, WWII and 1812 or protecting Canada’s natural landscape. She advocates the preservation of our natural and cultural riches for future generations. As mother of a child with ASD, she raises her pen, funds, and voice for awareness.
A damsel in distress, really nasty bad guys, and a hero who is haunted by his past... sure you've seen this combination before, but the way A. C. Mason stirs the pot, it’s a whole new world full of unexpected turns, poignant characters, and just enough sex to satisfy but keep you wanting more. I have to say, I’m not usually a big fan of paranormal romance, but I didn’t want this book to end. The story is exciting, the characters compelling, and the sex — c'est, oooh la la!
Set in Paris in 1940, the novella uses the threat of Nazi brutality to provide intense confrontations that keep the reader on edge throughout. The fast pace creates an urgency in the reader to reach the end of the story, to make sure the bad guys don’t win. In the end, it’s near thing.
Alexia Pane is the quintessential ‘40s heroine, courageous yet soft and vulnerable. Her plight is bound up with the fate of the leader of a pack of shapeshifter wolves who befriend her. Engle VanWolf is the flawed but sexy hot hero of the tale. Hurt by past tragedies, maimed and aloof, Engle is a hero you root for to get his happily ever after. Though he constantly rebuffs Alexia, he is drawn to her beauty and the allure of the chocolate damsel always in need of rescue. Their chemistry sizzles as their attraction escalates.
Did I mention the sex in this book is HOT? The smoking hot ménage a quatre scene (F/M/F/M) between various pack members is brief but sensual. And the scenes between Alexia and VanWolf smolder during stolen moments, fanning the flames of their attraction toward an elusive white-hot fire bolt of passion.
From the action filled plot to the charmingly vulnerable characters to the strange but fascinating world of the shapeshifting wolf pack, A. C. Mason’s book is a great introduction to her Wolf-Spirit series. And if you don’t like paranormal romance, just read Chocolate Damsel. It’ll change your mind.
When I first read the description of this book, I thought it was going to be some kind of campy read I could get a good chuckle off of. Werewolves, Nazis and a Chocolate Damsel?
I have to admit I was pleasantly surprised. The only complaint I have is the story moved a little too quickly. I was surprised how quickly Alexia fell in with the pack and how quickly she fell for the Alpha. It also seemed a little odd to me that she was instantly wet and attracted to the Alpha, but it WAS established by the author that humans responded quickly to the touch of the Shunu.
Alexia is adorable. She's a "damsel in distress", but she isn't the typical whiny, stupid variety who puts herself in danger for no reason. (Except the one time she goes running out of the house in the middle of Nazi territory, but she had cause.) She's a sweet, loving person who is lucky to have fallen in with the pack and not the Nazis hunting her.
This is another quick read and it's a cute story that is well written. I love a story with a strong female lead and this book has two. The Alpha is a dominant male without being too much of an asshole like stereotypical romance "alphas". I was consistently drawn in to find out what happened next. The pack dynamic was explained well and after I got past my initial "lolwut" about the subject matter, I really did find an engaging story I recommend.
The story ended too soon. I almost felt as though I was just getting to know the characters and it was already the end. I'm looking forward to starting book two later tonight.
I loved the characters in this book. The first in a series by a.c. Mason. Set in Paris during the Natzi invasion, this paranormal adventure has all the flavor of the great black and white films of the day.
Alexia is a softer heroine with a lot of heart. In fact, she has the ability to feel the hurts and pain of those around her, which makes her the perfect mate for the emotionally closed pack alpha, Van Wolf.
The death of Van Wolf's mate and child years before has left him not only physically marred but emotionally broken. Though the stoic hero puts up a good front, he can't combat the attraction he feels for the lovely young singer. AAnd with her gift in play he can't hide behind his mask of inscrutibility because she sees him for who he is.
Alexia's gentleness warms his heart but a prophetic dream warns him of the danger he faces to claim her as his own.
In an emotionally charged character study, Ms. Mason gives us rare insight in to the mind of a broken alpha male and provides us with a sweeping romantic adventure that leaves you wanting more. This is a truly romantic story with genuine characters. I look forward to the next in the series.
Very Delicious and salacious short read. Need a juicy pick me up filled with copious amounts of sex...try this one! Oh there is a plot somewhere thrown in and it is interesting though, the conflicts leave something to be desired, they are easily resolved so as to get back to the sex.
Loved the backdrop of WWII. This was the first in a series, so more background information is needed before this can be a must read. A good start and I will be watching for the next story.
