I honestly have no idea on how I feel about this book. This manga didn't keep me interested because there wasn't much there. So this review will be very short.
What to say about this manga . . . Well, it was okay at best. It wasn’t horrible or anything like that but it wasn’t interesting enough for me to be to want to finish this manga series.
In a nutshell, this is basically James Bond but manga style. The main character is mysterious, a powerful assassin, a ladies man, and a kickass strategist. There’s not much to this guy really. He’s badass and there’s little known about him . . . and that’s about it.
The other characters, they’re not interesting either. I’m not sure you can even all them characters really. They just appear, serve their purpose and that’s it. So as you can see, the character cast is very tiny.
There’s not much to the story either. It’s just the main character taking jobs while also having this mysterious past that no one seems to know. But I do admit that he’s very creative and resourceful on how he gets his job done. Just looking at the strategies he uses is always fun and I do enjoy those parts. The other scenes, not so much.
I can’t find anything else to say about it. It wasn’t bad, you either find it enjoyable or you don’t. For me, I just didn’t find it that interesting.
That’s what the general tried to do when G13 was hired to shoot a satellite out of orbit so no one will know what happened when it snafued due to lethal meteor showers. When the General tried to do a little subterfuge to get rid of him after a job done in space. General has every reason to be deathly afraid when G13 got back. Next story is Princess Diana is ever more scandalous, and the elite was getting worried. They decided to hire an agent to assassinate her by means of an accident. Unbeknownst to them, another member of MI6 hires G13 to take out a target, an Arab trying to buy his way into British society which is considered unthinkable. The two converged upon the small entourage of Diana’s by motorcycle. An agent had already doped up the chauffeur in order to cause an accident. G13, in his motorcycle, had already dispatched the Arab in the car as he drove alongside it. The two saw each other, wondering what the hell. Didn’t go well for the agent. However, another loose end to be dealt with in the form of the editor-in-chief who owned two newspapers, one good, and one bad. Still fun to read, the stories. Recommended.
There's no such thing as "too soon" for this title. The first story features Golgo 13 being hired to shoot a satellite out of orbit, which is a little preposterous since he is going to do it with a sniper rifle, but then again it's not as farfetched as James Bond in Moonraker. The second story deals with a conspiracy about Princess Diana's death and I think the story was released the same year she died, which seems like "too soon" to me. The story was actually good, but the subject matter made it a little hard to take. Or it could just be me. Anyway, this series is enjoyable for the most part, and pretty unique.
Two wild conspiracy theory episodes of Golgo's adventures. Both bonkers. Second one is probably in bad taste and first one is pretty far fetched but still the kind of adventures that you come to Golgo for.
Rather interesting take on the circumstances surrounding Princess Di. I loved the first story, in which Duke takes a job for President Ford to shoot a satellite in high orbit. As always, we know how the story is going to end. But we read Golgo 13 to find out precisely how Duke gets to the end. It's not about the ending. It's about how Duke gets there. Four and a half stars.
