* The good news: Elizabeth "Lizard" and Simon "Spider" are best friends.
* The bad news: When first grade starts, these friends will be going to different schools.

Sure, that bad news is a big-big deal in a preschooler's life. For instance:

"I'm not going to first grade," announced Lizard. "I can already count to seventy-three."

FIVE STARS for this celebration of enjoying life, rather than defining one's life as all or nothing.

Thanks, author Roberta Baker. Thanks, creator of outrageous kid pictures, Debbie Tilley.

Lizard Walinsky isn't exactly like the rest of the girls in her class. Who will be her friend as her friends all move on to other things? You won't be disappointed in who she finds.

Fun characters and wonderful illustrations.

This is a sweet story about friendships -- old and new -- of first graders. First Grade is such a vulnerable and dynamic time that kids can easily relate to this book.
