Classic instructional book on painting the portrait and the figure. The techniques are solidly based in traditional oil painting methods, and yet displays a more contemporary approach to the human figure.
Some of the material names are dated, but the equivalent products are still readily available. The author also provides enough information on pigments, paint consistency, and paint handling to translate his approach to other opaque media, like gouache or acrylics. Few more recent painting instruction books provide the same quality and quantity of information, especially in such a readable manner.
