Multilevel STATCOM Model for Reactive Power Compensation: Modeling, Analysis and Design

Rate this book
This book deals with the design and implementation of a multilevel voltage source converter (VSC) based static synchronous compensator (STATCOM) and employing an effective modulation control technique simulated in a MATLAB Simulink environment for triggering the switches of the VSC (PWM). A MATLAB program has been developed to simulate the system operation and various simulation results are presented under different conditions. The main objective of this book is to maintain the voltage stability by compensating the reactive power in the power system. Hence, a new method used to reduce the voltage fluctuations like sag and swell conditions and also to isolate current and voltage harmonics in the transmission system. The multilevel STATCOM, which can be used at the point of common coupling (PCC). The performance is compared by applying it to 110 kV transmission line with and without STATCOM. The reactive power compensation is chosen to improve the performance of the AC system. The compensation achieved by using two types of nine levels STATCOM and twenty seven levels STATCOM. At the end, there is a comparative study between them.
