This children's story is written by the third-grade students of Kingsland Elementary School in Spring Valley, Minnesota. Bradly is excited when his mother brings home a new package of pencils. The next day at school, problems start. The pencil and the eraser start fighting. They erase Bradly's work, put holes in it, etc. which gets Bradly in a lot of trouble with his teacher and his parents.
Bradly is a third grader who gets a new pencil. He is so excited! He uses his pencil to practice his multiplication, but when he gets up from his seat Pete the Pencil and Eddie the Eraser get in a fight and end up erasing his work. He blames his friend, not realizing it is actually his pencil and eraser. Bradly continues to do his homework and put it in his backpack but somehow it always gets turned in blank. Then Bradly gets his report card and he gets all F's except in gym, music, and computers. Pete and Eddie start to feel bad, so they change all the F's to A's. Bradly's parents get really angry and then Pete and Eddie feel really guilty. They decide that they should work together and let Bradly do his own work.
I gave this book 5 out of 5 stars because it was very creative. This story was written and illustrated by third graders. The story teaches kids a good lesson about teamwork and they could also learn multiplication or telling time from the illustrations. The text is written on lined paper which is super cute. The fact that this story is about a pencil and eraser makes it even more interesting to students because they use them everyday.
Bradly loved getting new pencils. When Mom got home from work she gave him a brand new pack she had bought him. Bradly kissed the pack and put one pencil in his backpack. When he got to school the next day, he took out his new pencil and sharpened it. The teacher gave the class a multiplication page to work on and his new pencil worked great. Bradly needed a tissue so he went to get one. While he was gone, his pencil began to shake. Pete the Pencil and Eddie the Eraser came to life. They began to argue over who was getting used more and who was more important. They tumbled and wiggled until they scribbled all over the paper and fell to the ground. When Bradly returned to his desk he accused another classmate of making the mess. Over the next few days his homework was erased and work was changed. The teacher gave Bradly “F’s” on his report card. Eddie and Pete were scared that Bradly would be in trouble so they changed the F’s to A’s. When Bradly’s parents seen this they grounded him. Bradly was so mad he started to break his pencil. His Mom called him for dinner right before the pencil snapped. Eddie and Pete knew it was a close call and they promised to get along from then on. Now Bradly is making A’s again in school.
This book would be a good lesson on not fighting and getting along with others. I think I would read this maybe on the first day of class because it's talking about new school supplies and say if this happens to you you better let me know.
This book is about sharing, and team work, taking turns, being polite, courteous, and respectful. Cute little story written by kids showing how they understand politeness and working together.
This book is awesome to read the start of the school year; especially the first six weeks. The books shares the importance of team building, working together, and sharing with peers.
This book could be used to have a lesson about disagreements. We often need to remind our students why we need to get along. In the end they ended up hurting someone by their behavior.
