The literary equivalent of a television clip show. A majority of these essays appear in "Out of soundings". It seems writing an autobiography is extremely difficult as seen in the dodges that publishers, editors and authors go to get around the fact that the writer finds it too difficult to finish one. Thus here we have two excellent essays book-ending previously published material being called an autobiographical 'sketch'. Others i have observed recently include the contrivance of writing about two years only (Liam O'Flaherty) and leaving out the most dramatic part of the life with two lines (James Hanley).
