Clarke embarked on a 3,000-mile motorcycle journey around the coast of Great Britain during the wettest June on record, 2007, in spite of strong opposition from his wife for having bought a new bike and daring such an adventurous trip at his age.
I published this book because I thought the author deserved recognition. I, the publisher, am Bronwyn Editions. The author is Dave Clarke. I thought it was a great story; in fact, 2 great stories in one. That is because, on his way around the coast of GB in almost the wettest June on record, Dave reminisced and eventually wrote about his life so far with his love of motorcycles and how this warred with his family.
I love riding motorcycles. I can still feel the adrenaline rush and the camaraderie. There is no feeling quite like being at one with the motorcycle or feeling as though you are flying free. However, I didn't own a Harley Davidson nor did I own a Kawasaki Vulcan 1600 Classic (an exceptional bike). I owned and rode a dirt bike - Bultaco - a classic Spanish motorcycle. I had fun riding it up and down hills and valleys where I lived in the countryside of Texas. I enjoyed reading David Clark's book about his journey around the coast of Great Britain and his journey back in time through his childhood and later years. Readers, this is a true story and it is well written. If life is getting just a little bit dull and dusty around the frazzled edges, then now is the time to read a good book and have a few laughs. The author and family man has been riding motorcycles for over forty years. He wrote about his experiences and observations, his worldliness and his love. Reading this made me want to get a Vulcan so I could tag along, if and when he takes another road trip. One of the good parts of this exceptional true story is: We can go with Dave, see the sights, experience the eccentricities and won't even have to leave of the comfort of our easy chair or worry about bad weather.
This book's title is a come on. You will have to read the book to find out why.
Mr. Clarke, the author, writes alternately about his current life and in particular a two week motorcycle ride around England. Then he interweaves information about his early life. The detailed information about motorcycles was not interesting to me but perhaps a motorcyclist would find it helpful. A map of his ride would be useful for we American readers. The early life information was the most interesting part for the book for me. It was rather amazing that he could seemingly find jobs anywhere and at anytime.
