Crawlspace and other stories: Tales from the shared universes of Eric Flint and Dave Freer. This anthology includes a novella prequel to the acclaimed Rats Bats and Vats, and a novelette set in the same universe some years later.
Eric Flint was a New York Times bestselling American author, editor, and e-publisher. The majority of his main works were alternate history science fiction, but he also wrote humorous fantasy adventures.

This is a collection of five stories and novellas from Dave Freer and Eric Flint, two of the better current sci-fi and fantasy authors. Pirates of the Suara Sea is a rousing tale of spaceships and sailing ships. Red Fiddler takes legends and myths of faerie into a clash with some denizens of the modern world. The Witch's Murder is primarily a historical mystery but with a little magic for spice.
Genie Out of the Vat is a part of Dave Free's highly entertaining Rats, Bats and Vats. It would be a great introduction to that series for someone who wants to try it without tackling the novel first. Crawlspace is set in the same universe but in the future when humans and their allies have gone on the offensive against the vile Korozhet, eaters of other sentient beings. These two novellas make up about seventy percent of this collection

Now I have to go find more of Mr. Freer s tales! Quote a good distraction for a bad day, or when I inadvertently watch the nightly news. Highly recommend these tales never wou!d have guessed tales of rats, bats, and offworld humans would be this good.
