After reading Let's Recycle, this book provided excellent realistic images to help the reader understand some of the harder words in the text. The bold captions at the top gave the reader an idea of what the text would be talking about on each page. I really enjoyed the whole idea of cause and effect in this book, because it let's us know how we can recycle as well as reusing items and reducing the use of resources. The book delved into the idea that throwing trash away will only fill up our landfill and create negative effects on our earth. They added a number of positive ways we can stop throwing away trash and the benefits of recycling as well. I really liked that the front cover starts off with an image of recycling because it will give us a hint of what the book will be talking about. The beginning of the book has a page discussing the table of contents, so we know what to expect as a reader. There is also a glossary of the words that are more difficult and give their definitions. As an activity for the week, I would like to start incorporating recycling in my classroom. We can use it as a project we work on throughout the year.
This book would be a good book to introduce recycling to young children. The book is simple and that is good for an introduction in recycling. You don't want to start blasting facts on children right from the start of a unit of study. That would be overbearing for some children. The books provides great illustrations of children no recycling and children becoming involved with recycling.
