I almost gave this an extra star for the sweet earnestness of the (terrible) writing. Then the endless heteronormative vileness was too much. There is a lot of chatter about "this is how all men/women act." Mostly it comes down to how.men are naturally the leaders and protectors of women so when they have a moment of physical weakneas they must act like assholes. You can't fight nature! I rolled my eyes so often I gave myself a headache. Spoiler: Any real woman always wants to have the babies of the man she loves. The lack of that desire makes her a monster. You heard it here first. On a first date the guy asks "so why aren't you married with children?" A dead woman is portrayed as a total monster for wanting to succeed as a lawyer and not wanting kids. I say this as a straight cisgender mother who left the practice of law - I wanted to smack this writer. In other matters, the writing is painfully bad. No one on earth has ever spoken the way these people talk. The central roadbump that threatens their relationship is so illogical I am baffled as to how the writer ever thought of it.

A Beautiful Romantic Tale

This book was an AWESOME romance novel. The main characters were wonderfully caring people and most of the story was believable. The problems between Damien and Lacey were ones that could have happened in real life and the way they worked through their issues was very plausible. This story definitely held my attention! I didn't want to put it down, unfortunately there's this thing called sleep, but other than during those moments of snooze it never left my hands until I was finished. The relationship between Lacey and Damien developed naturally and realistically and the love scenes were HOT!!! The chemistry between Damien and Lacey leapt off the pages. Mrs. Carmichael was once again able to convey the emotions of the characters perfectly. I really cared about these people. When they laughed, I laughed, when they cried I cried. It was just that moving. And when Lacey was devastated by a cruel act of another person, you really felt her pain. Also, I could relate to what she was feeling and her reactions almost every step of the way in this book. At one point Damien had a major issue to deal with, and even though I empathized with him I was upset with his treatment of Lacey, and even though I understood his dilemma, I didn't agree with the way he handled it, but you know MEN. Another Definite MUST Read from Mrs. Carmichael. And I'll be waiting to read more about Daniel and Holly, I know it's gotta be coming.
