Macrina Wiederkehr shares a wealth of effective ways to awaken the golden memories each of us has. Her use of creative rituals, personal symbols, and pilgrimages to hallowed places invites us to make similar journeys to our past.
Macrina Wiederkehr is an author and spiritual guide and a Benedictine monastic of St. Scholastica Monastery in Fort Smith, Arkansas. She travels throughout the US and Canada as a retreat director. In her retreats seekers are guided through experiences of silence, contemplation, and faith sharing.
Sister Macrina Wiederkehr was a friend of my mother’s, and I took part in a silent retreat led by her a few years ago. She was a lovely woman, and it was a moving experience. Over the years, my mother has gifted me with several of her books, and when Sister Macrina passed away from a brain tumor recently, I was moved to reach for one of those books. “Gold in Your Memories” is filled with Sister Macrina’s beautiful memories, poetry and reflections on nature, solitude and faith. Her books are a gift; may she rest in peace.
This beautiful book by Macrina Wiederkher is the second book I have read by this author. I have also read Behold your life both books have helped me as I write my memoir.
I have just started this book. I picked it up at a used book sale thinking it was more of Macrina's poetry. Instead I have found a book that is challenging some of my "I can'ts". After chapter one I have written my first haikus. I am looking forward to reading more.
I'd give this book a thousand stars if I could. Deeply spiritual, insightful and reflective. Macrina teaches us to mine for the gold in our memories as a present day gift to ourselves and the people in our lives.
