The Light of Reason - A Scientist’s Inspiring Journey of Recovery and Finding the Value of Life

Rate this book
Her illness almost destroyed her life. It ended up giving her hope.

At the height of her professional career, groundbreaking immunologist Dr. Tamar Jehuda Cohen was diagnosed with a life-threatening brain aneurysm. While surgeons debated where and how to open and remove parts of her brain, Tamar’s thoughts drifted to the possible effects on her mind – and her soul.
In the blink of an eye, Tamar’s professional life as a researcher, inventor, entrepreneur, lecturer, and scientist, built over twenty long years – was lost. In its place came epilepsy, severe pain, loss of speech, and other impossible obstacles imposed on her by complex brain surgeries.

Yet for Tamar, the aneurism was a godsend and a revelation. In light of the struggles it entailed, she found the energy and strength to grow, develop – and eventually, heal. With remarkable resilience, tenacity, vision, and hope; with plenty of compassion and zero self-pity, The Light of Reason is a life-affirming, courage-inspiring odyssey through a mind faced with its own mortality, and the inner peace that lies within all of us.

A story of strength and encouragement - an exceptionally valuable book

Israeli author Tamar Jehuda Cohen is an immunologist, inventor, and lecturer in science, bioethics and Judaic studies. Add to that impressive background her new role as an author who makes a significant contribution with THE LIGHT OF REASON and her leading role as a humanist rises to the forefront! Her book has been translated from the Hebrew by Tamar Jehuda Cohen, expanding the range of eligible readership. The incident that initiated this valuable book was a brain aneurysm and the surgical procedures that lead to her incapacities with speech, paralysis, seizures, and intractable pain. Offered with language informed by her career standing as a scientist, and her ability to write clearly the medical aspects of her situation, Dr. Cohen shares her journey through critical times and how she has been able to transform such challenges into opportunities for stepping away from the victim mode into a refreshing life of spiritual and philosophical growth. Her messages are so well written that this book becomes a font of hope and reassurance for anyone physically and mentally challenged - very inspiring and so important for patients and for caregivers. Very highly recommended.

A beautifully moving, life-affirming true story...

Human existence is a never-ending series of countless events and occurrences, some of which are positive while others are negative. These occurrences are a part of both the individual and the communal experiences that make up life. In life, every one of us will inevitably come up against obstacles. All of these experiences, no matter how great or how small, will contribute in some way to the person we become. Conquering these obstacles is what ultimately leads to our growth in strength and wisdom, and it also gives us the opportunity to motivate and support others along the path. "The Light of Reason," by Dr. Tamar Jehuda Cohen, is an incredibly compelling and life-affirming real narrative that acts as a tremendous source of motivation for all who read it. I give this book a resounding five stars and give it my highest possible recommendation. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
