Meg encounters resistance and competition in her relationship with Stanley--from his mother, who would rather he dated debutante Daphne Wainwright, and from Wanda Zetterquist, who wants Stanley for herself.
This is exactly the lighthearted, fluffy, vintage YA book I needed.
Meg would really like to have a boyfriend, and falls for Stanley, who is rich and obsessed with science. It's really sweet because honestly, IS Stanley such a catch? There's a lot of fun in this book including: accidentally burning a barn down with a science experiment, being a candy striper and visiting premature babies. Meg has a good head on her shoulders and has an entertaining POV. I see here on Goodreads that this is the second book about Meg and Stanley, but I would never have known that from reading the book. There is some backstory about how they got to know each other in dancing school and he escorted Meg to her grandparents' 50th anniversary party, which I guess is the subject of the first book (Partners.)
I wish I could find a site that Goodreads would accept as a source for a cover photo, because the cover is pure gold: the title is in neon light script, and the photo is of two girls and a boy all in cable-knit sweaters sharing one piece of pizza. The two girls both have long frosted hair and light makeup. The boy and one girl are gazing into each other's eyes while the ignored other girl gazes sadly off into the middle distance. Tag line: "I'm wild about Stanley... but Katie is too." Extra points for portraying a scene that actually happens in the book.
