The Junior Confirmation Book prepares for The Senior Confirmation Book. Together the two books for a unit for two years of confirmation instruction.
The Junior Confirmation Book consists of two parts: I. The Story of Redemption; THE PREPARATION and THE FULFILLMENT II. The Memory Work, required in the senior book. THE CATECHISM, AND BIBLE VERSES.
The Bible historical material (Part I) aims to furnish the historical picture of God's saving purposes and plan in Christ.
The Memory Work (Part II) is arranged in the same order as in the senior book, though in fewer chapters. This part is to be memorized.
...When the children recite the Memory Work, they should look up and underscore the Bible passages in their Bibles. This will create more interest and, besides, increase the children's working knowledge of their Bible.

This was the first serious theological reading I did, at the age of 11 when I started Confirmation Class in my Lutheran Church. It thrilled me to read something "adult" and it had a profound and continuing influence on my life.
Thank you Pastor Gerberding. Thank you Martin Luther. I learned to read my Bible, and taught Pastor Gerberding everything I know; he had a lot of questions, and expected me to find the answers. He also kindly explained to me that I could never become a Lutheran Nun in spite of the fact that Martin Luther married one (a nun) himself. Pastor G. you were wrong. I AM a Lutheran nun after all, and furthermore, my husband married one.
