The gimmick of this book is to give an architectural term for each letter of the alphabet, illustrated by a photograph of an example of the term from the Library of Congress. It does not tell us much about architecture, and because there is only one term per letter, there must be several terms left out. Moreover, I am not sure all the terms defined are properly architectural; for example, I would say that the terms "clock", "inlay", "mosaic", "x-motif", "youth", and "zigzag" are not architectural. However, the photographs are beautiful, and they make me want to visit the building.

Lots to explore in the illustrations- the photos and artwork are very detailed. This is not necessarily a children's alphabet book. More of an homage to the Library of Congress, especially the Jefferson building, ( I think in connection with an anniversary date). Photos of intricate artistic works and some specific architectural terminology. Of course, in order to get all 26 letters of the alphabet, some terms are general, e.g., "C" is for clock -- but a specific clock in the building.

This was a delightful photographic collection to peruse after visiting the Library of Congress.

Was it the most informative work? Not particularly, but it was still enjoyable and the images are beautiful. It's a great jumping off point for those curious about learning more on the architecture of the Library of Congress.
