Once you begin studying the hieroglyphs in this series start looking at Ancient Egyptian wall paintings, artifacts, literature, etc and see how many hieroglyphs you recognize. Remember though that they could be written right to left (the most common way), left to right or vertically.

Great starting place

This is an excellent guide for those beginning their understanding and reading of Egyptian Hieroglyphs. I learned so much from just this book alone.

I am reading this on my Kindle and it's really a perfect for it. The instruction method is old school: repetition, which I am fine with because it works in this instance. When I learned Biblical Hebrew a different method was used, but then it was a different language entirely.

Since childhood I have had a fascination with Egyptology, both archaeological and epigraphic. The only book I still have from that time in my life is EA Budge's book on learning Egyptian hieroglyphics. Budge's books are apparently held in wide disrepute in the academic field. So I picked up this mobi book for my Kindle on a lark. Amazon had given me $10USD to spend in their Kindle store so I got both book 1 and 2 of this series.

The book completely works as a digital edition. The hieroglyphics are clear and their associated information is patently demarcated. This makes the book both easy to read and follow while pursuing a rather esoteric interest.
