This is the only picture about the War of 1812 that I have in my library. Am glad to have it to read with my fifth graders in our history unit to help them understand about the USS Constitution, and as an example of 'heroic' deeds.
Glossary of ship's terms helpful, Diagram of the ship's hold helps readers understand how far the ammunition had to be carried. But the illustrations of the handkerchiefs ties around their heads does not show their ears covered, which the text says it the reason they wore them.

The imagined adventures of a real boy aboard an American fighting ship during the Revolutionary War, this will give young readers a glimpse of the bravery and bravado shown by the founding citizens of our country, as well as the ins and outs of a working battleship.
