If there's an elephant in your living room - a blind spot or problem that is obvious to eveyone else but invisible to you - there's hope. Marlane Renner openly shares how an "elephant" entered her life through a childhood rape. This solitary event affected her life for 28 years, hindering normal relationships with those that were closest to her. Through her compelling story, she reveals the healing process that restored her wholeness. This book will help anyone overcome their blind spots, rgardless of the cause. A 20-page study guide is included at the end of the book to give you tools with which to identify and banish your own elephants, once and for all.
I had the opportunity to hear the author speak at a tea. She is a very gifted speaker. I found her book written in an easy-to-read style even though the topics she brought out were not always easy. I was a bit confused chronologically at times as different chapters sometimes revisited an earlier time. I thought her advice was sound. I found in the study guide section that I tended to not spend a lot of time on answering the questions but rather just read through them to get a flavor for what she was bringing forth. Several chapters into the study guide questions I found myself skimming. If I'd been doing this with a group where we used this study guide as the basis for discussion, I think I would have gotten more out of it, especially as it probably would have been spaced out more over a period of weeks.
